Dear Mollyrose, Try finding your cousin in the local white pages ... Australian Telephone Book.

Try also posting a message looking for your cousin at Griffiths Family Genealogy Forum if whitepages doesn't work.

As Melbourne is in the State of Victoria, Australia, try this website... Public Record Office Victoria, Australia. Click on ACCESS THE COLLECTION in the left-hand column.

Also try National Archives of Australia. Type your surname in the keywords/name box, then press search.

Here's a photo of the Atalanta ship.

And it can't hurt to search the State Archives of NSW - New South Wales - Australia.

And sign up as a free member of the RootsChat website. Goto the Emigrants - Emigrants to Australia board.

Good luck, Alison from QLD (Queensland, Australia).

Hi Margaret, Well I can but I don't know if it's the same lady. There's a marriage record in 1938 in the suburb of Redfern, State of New South Wales, Australia to groom: James Patrick George BARTLETT. Don't know how popular/common the CANAVAN surname is. You never know I guess.

Searchable online index for deaths only goes up to 1976 for NSW.

I've created a CANAVAN surname wiki page for you. Have a look through the Ryerson Index, link is there. It should have deaths from newspapers in Australia.

Please keep an open mind when you are searching for people. Remember that people can and do remarry. I found marriages for brides called Ruby marrying grooms with surname HARTNETT and HEALEY in NSW.
