the 1874 voyage to Wellington of the STAR of INDIA

Journal by ngairedith

All I can find at the moment is that the Star of India only made 2 trips to new Zealand and that the 1874 trip was the 2nd

It left London on the 31st July 1874 and arrived in Wellington on the 10th Novemeber 1874 with about 307 passengers.
It berthed on the 17th November.

During the voyage one of the male immigrants seized his child one day and jumped overboard in a fit of dementia. Both father and child were drowned
This is a good read written in 1924 and taken from White Wings: The Star Of India - Immigrant Memories of Fifty Years Ago ? An Eventful Trip.

A photo of the Star of India and info of the 1873 voayage

The fireclay and firebricks for lining of the New Zealand Titanic Steel and Iron Company furnace at Taradale arrived by that trip

The only info found so far on the passengers was:
.. "the immigrants by the Star of India were landed this morning. They seem a respectable well selected lot of people and in excellent health. An old Wellington settler, who was a cabin passenger by the vessel, gives them an excellent character" ...
