The MAI family arrived in New Zealand from London, England on the ship England which arrived at Wellington Harbour New Zealand on 9 March 1872 having departed from London on 8 December 1871
On board was;
Claus Petersen Mai (1845-1913) aged 29
*Louisa Sophia (nee HENDERICKSEN) (1835-1910) aged 37
Mathias Mai aged 7 (1865-1947)
Hans Mai aged 5 (1866-1948)
*was written on passenger list as Clara Louisa
Claus & Louisa were born in Germany
- they married in Germany in 1863 and had the above 2 sons
- they had 2 more sons in New Zealand:
Neils Petersen Mai (1875-1877)
Claus Petersen Mai (1880-1963)
Louisa Sophia Mai died on 2 May 1910
- she is buried Plot 26 - Row 110 - Block 2 at Feilding Cemetery
Claus Peterse Mai died on 16 November 1913
- he is buried Plot 25 - Row 110 - Block 2 at Feilding Cemetery

Claus and Louisa (Louise Sophia Hansen) were married in Church of Havnbjerg, Als,Lannsby, Prussia. Claus born Instenstelle 30B, Lavensby, Als, Prussia and Louise born Ketting, Als, Prussia.
Youngest son Claus Petersen's son Keith Franklin Mai is still living in Waikanae.
And Keith's youngest son Barry Norman Mai is living in Auckland with his sons Karl Ashley Mai and Andrew Barry Mai and daughter Casey Lee Mai. Karl has a daughter Ashlee Brooke Mai born 19 October 2007 and Andrew has a son Lucas Andrew Glen Mai born 24 June 2012.
